The lovely city of Oaxaca is the small but refined capital of Oaxaca State. An impressive United Nations “World Cultural Heritage Site,” it’s labyrinth of elegant plazas, pedestrian walkways, ancient churches, fabulous restaurants, and delicious cuisine make Oaxaca City one of Mexico’s most unique and enjoyable colonial destinations. The Oaxaca region is also world famous for its unique Day of the Dead celebrations. This is a relaxed and comfortable adventure. Fascinating traditional villages, interesting “market day” events, and fine arts & crafts abound. In addition, some of Mexico’s most exquisite archaeological sites dominate the Oaxaca landscape as vivid reminders of the region’s ancient Zapotec and Mixtec origins.

Carnaval In Veracruz: “One For The (Coffee) Road”

Feb 10 - 19, 2012 10 days $1695

This is it! Our last Carnaval in Veracruz!

Enjoy this last magical journey to untrampled Veracruz and the world’s 3rd largest Carnaval in the Port of Veracruz. That’s right! The ATI Crystal Ball says this is it- your last chance with ATI. I love this area but, after 12 Carnavals, most of the “ATI Family” has been here, and we’re ready to move on to new adventures. Relax in one of México’s best kept secrets- tropical paradise in Lake Catemaco to enjoy the remote Gulf Coast, waterfalls, walks, boats & birds. The lovely “Coffee Road” awaits, with regal Córdoba, mountain Cosco at the foot of Pico de Orizaba, & elegant Jalapa for great coffee, fine food, and museums. Finish with Carnaval. As Carnavals go, Veracruz is tame. Great seafood. Vibrant parades. Our hotel is right on the water and parade route!

ATI Intensive Spanish Institute (ISI): “Cuernavaca, México”

Feb 19 - 26, 2012 President's Week 8 days $1495

Study Spanish with ATI in the lovely city of Cuernavaca- the small but vibrant capital of the state of Morelos. This “Intensive Spanish Institute” is an intimate small group experience. You flow through a variety of activities and instructors. We work hand in hand with local Spanish schools to provide a diverse and entertaining immersion. You’ll get practical “hands-on” grammar, conversation, and culture. Lots of contact with native speakers. 100% Spanish. Beginning to Superior levels. Each afternoon we explore Cuernavaca and vicinity including delightful cultural destinations like Tepoztlán, Malinalco, and Xochicalco, and spend two nights in colonial Taxco.

Peru Trips 2012

Adventuring On The Road To Machu Picchu: “Arequipa, Condor Country & Lake Titicaca”

July 3 - 11, 2012 9 days $1495

Begin in the lovely “White City” or “Ciudad Blanca” colonial Arequipa. If you love UNESCO World Heritage Cities, then you’ll be right at home here. Regal Arequipa offers lovely architecture, great climate, and fine Peruvian cuisine. From Arequipa we go up. That’s where the condors are. “Condor Country,” the famed Colca Canyon, is home to the most viewable Andean Condors in the world. This delightful traditional region boasts vast ancient terracing, rustic villages & inviting hot springs. Next is mesmerizing Lake Titicaca- the “Lake Tahoe of South America.” We enjoy the Port of Puno & boat to floating reed islands, then explore yet another UNESCO site- the island of Taquile- home to some of the world’s most accomplished weavers. This program does not include Cuzco or Machu Picchu, but you can join part or all of the next program to Cuzco and Machu Picchu.

Adventuring In Cuzco & Machu Picchu: “Our Classic Adventure”

July 11 - 21, 2012 11 days $1895

OR: “Intensive Spanish In Cuzco” (ATLAS) $1995

Cuzco and Machu Picchu are two of the great “must see” travel destinations. They do not disappoint! Cuzco is high in the Andes surrounded by lovely glacier-clad “mountain gods,” while Machu Picchu gazes down upon steaming Amazon jungle. This exciting Andean adventure is our most in-depth exploration of the delightful Cuzco and Machu Picchu region. We enjoy traditional villages of Quechua speaking people, visit their colorful craft markets, and explore the ruined cities of their ancestors. Key sites in or near the Sacred Valley include Pisac, Chinchero, and Ollantaytambo. We journey by train to the roadless and colorful town of Aguas Calientes, and explore the magnificent and exhilarating ruins at Machu Picchu. Later we settle in to the lovely and refined ancient Inka capital of Cuzco to explore the many wonders in and around the city.

Adventuring In The Cordillera Blanca: “The Journey to Shangri La”

July 21 - Aug 3, 2012 14 days $2195

Journey with me to one of the world’s great alpine regions- the Cordillera Blanca. We are bound for the incomparable Janca Pampa- as lovely an alpine valley as you will ever lay eyes upon. At 11,000 ft., Janca Pampa is ringed with glacier-clad pyramids 20,000 ft. high and dotted with the farmer’s hamlets in as pastoral a mountain setting as exists on this earth. Enjoy lovely valleys, sweeping vistas, isolated villages, inviting hot springs, spectacular hiking, and mysterious archaeology. We’ll also explore the unique and ancient archaeology at Chavín and stroll among the glacial giants-Nevados Huandoy and Huascarán-on one of the world’s great day hikes to lovely Lake 15,000. Yes. We are at high elevations, but don’t let that discourage you. It’s much more doable than you think. This journey is not trekking. We operate in our “Himalaya with a Hotel” style which enables us to enjoy Janca Pampa and the Cordillera Blanca in relative comfort. Most nights we sleep in modest hotels, but in the Janca Pampa, we “base camp,” sleeping in tents while supported by our mountain outfitter. You carry a day pack. They do everything else! The Janca Pampa is one of my very favorite places. I can’t get it out of my mind and I would really love to go back there with you. You’ll remember it for the rest of your life.

All trips feature small group travel and include hotel accommodation (ppdo), professional guides, entry fees, cultural presentations, and major ground transportation (not airfare).
